http://english.pravda.ru/science/my...alien_monster-0
Village residents from the Rostov region of Russia caught a weird creature two weeks ago after a strong storm in the Sea of Azov. The shark-looking creature was producing strange squeaky sounds. The fishermen originally believed that they had caught an alien and decided to film the monster with the help of a cell phone camera. The footage clearly shows the creatures’ head, body and long tail. The bizarre catch was weighing almost 100 kilograms, the Komsomolskaya Pravda reports. However, ufologists and scientists were greatly disappointed when they found out that the fishermen had eaten the monster. They said that they were not scared of the creature so they decided to use it as food. One of the men said that it was the most delicious dish he had ever eaten. ______________________________________________ (Puts head in hands) Goddamnit. Now when the alien's buddies come to find him, they're gonna be pissed. Good job people. I want off this planet.EDIT: Here's a video. http://www.fark.ru/media/video/prikols6/i1645 Last edited by TheLegendaryNAS : 02-17-2007 at 05:13 PM. Reason: Add video |

So fucking what? That's not the point. We have an unknown creature of unknown origin, and the idiots think "Well that looks yummy, let's eat it!" Jesus Christ! Maybe it wasn't extraterrestial. It still would have been a very interesting scientific discovery. |

I think I've seen that in the Ripley's Believe It or Not Book!
It kinda looks like a cross between a sturgeon and a stingray. |

Definitely looks like the underside of a bottom feeding organism like a ray, as someone else stated above. The "eyes" looks more like gills or nostrils, and then there's the bottom feeder mouth. Could be a new, or old form of a ray, as it's been known to happen that some "prehistoric" fish randomly get caught that were thought to have been extinct forever, much like the Coelacanth.
Looks more like they were exploiting the strange looking underbelly of the animal rather than a full view of it to make it seem more strange than it probably is. But, yeah, what kind of moron eats something they don't think is identified. If anything they could have become famous for discovering a new, or even long thought extinct lifeform. ![]()

I have seen this several times now or something very similar to it. My guess is that they just repackage into a new story every year.

The "creature" is indeed a skate, they've just brutally cut off the wings. You used to see this all the time at beach-side souvenir shops. If memory serves, I think they sold them as mermen/mermaids.

Skates aren't rare... who officially solved the mystery?
